Somatropina belongs to a group of drugs called growth stimulants. Somatotropin is a synthetic growth hormone. Growth hormone is produced naturally by the pituitary gland and is necessary for stimulating the growth of children.
Somatotropin is only given by injection. It is usually injected (subcutaneously) under the skin of the thigh, buttocks or abdomen. It is important to alternate the site from one time to the next to minimize the risk of adipose tissue loss at the injection site.
